i bought this card because it was advertised to get 60+ fps on the new battlefield.
On ultra/low Settings, i get 30-45fps. Doesn't seem to matter much what quality settings i use.
System Specs:
-i5 4590 @ 3.6GHz
-16 GB ram (8x1/2x4)
-XFX RX 480 8GB
-600w GOLD PSU
-500GB HDD
-windows 10.

I've ran a full sweep with my anti virus as well as malwarebytes and found nothing. my driver are updated to 16.9.2

i installed a performance monitor in game to see the GPU usage. Constantly spikes down to zero for no apparent reason. perhaps there's a setting in WATTMAN i'm supposed to alter?

yeah dont kid yourself, your bad fps are due to thermal throttling

get a good cooler on it before its too late

Since the FPS does not change when you lower the quality there must be another bottleneck...

What brand and model PSU do you have?

Have you monitored your CPU performance. I do not believe your CPU should have issues running BF1 at less than 60fps, but it does not hurt to make sure there is no bottleneck. What is the temps on your CPU?

Also, you do not mention a resolution? I assume it is at 1080p as it is unrealistic to expect 60fps with the rx480 at higher resolutions...

Does the FPS stay stable or does it have huge fluctuations with dips, or does it gradually decrease?

This performance hit only happens in BF1?

I'd guess its your CPU being a bottleneck, anything below an i7 6700k is showing lag in BF1 at the moment for most people, no matter what GPU they're using as the game has bad CPU optimisation. This CPU bottleneck would also be indicated by your performance not changing no matter what graphics settings you use.

The best option at this point is to wait for a patch.
If the issues persist after the patch, then look at getting either an i7 4770k / i7 4790k for your current motherboard, or a new Skylake i5 or i7.

Hi,
-There is newer driver, 16.11.2, you might check the performance with that one. Also if you will be installing the new driver, use DDU to completely remove the previous drivers from AMD

-Check if resolution scale in game is set at default 50%

-Check in AMD Radeon settings if power efficiency is set to OFF

-Check if you are running the game on DX 11, at the moment there is stuttering or not very good performance with DX 12

- As a reference point, my brother is running BF1 with i5 4690k(stock) and RX 470 8GB. At ultra settings at 1080p he gets around 80-90 fps, meaning you should get a little bit more. He had problems like you with low FPS, and the problem was DX12.

-Actually, as i was browsing on web, discovered that there is even newer driver ,16.11.3. You will also want to check with that driver.

This is good advice, if you look at benchmarks DX12 has higher average fps on the AMD than DX12 but it also has much lower minimum fps. Check out the CPU scaling results in the link below, the '0.1% LOW' in DX12 are the spikes you'll notice even if the average is OK.

Also notice that with an 8370 CPU and an RX-480 they were averaging over 80fps, that is with the same GPU as yours and a weaker CPU. That is the minimum performance you should expect in BF1 with your spec.

CPU temps are 95c, holy crap. Its time for new thermal past and maybe a custom cooler? Despite being at 95C the CPU never throttles down as i have it locked at 3.65GHz.

The default 50% Res-scale is just grainy and ugly, makes the game look terrible. 100% looks normal. AMD power effciency is off and the game is running on DX11.

The game goes back and forth between 60-30, but mostly staying between 30-40. there is a very slight boost (35-45fps) when the settings are turned to low. Thanks for the fast responses at 3AM! :)

*edit: I have a 600w Gold VALENS power supply.

Sorry, i meant 100% normal, 50% was in the beta.
