As far as i am aware i have all the basic specs (if not better) to be able to run gat5 on at least the lowest setting but unfortunatly im only running at about 15 fps. specs are as below and all settings for gta 5 are turned as low as they possibly could be.

  • Intel i5-4590 CPU @ 3.30GHz
8gbs of ram clocked at 1866
MSI AMD R9 270X graphics card with the latest beta drivers (also tested before installing the beta drivers)
    windows 7 64bit OS

    • Please if you have any ideas as to what my problem could be that would be fantastic

Solution
Is this problem isolated to GTA 5 or are you experiencing problems in other games too?

Your spec should allow for a balance of mostly medium settings to some basic shadows and 2x aa maybe, just maybe.

The card I assume has 2gb of vram, so this is a sticking point. It is a very intense game on buffering textures, so these are settings that need to be kept quite low unfortunately so as not to exceed the limits there, which result in the experience you mentioned.

However everything being turned to low and not running well doesn't sound right.

So please check in other titles if this is an issue and then we can isolate if there is some game setting or "switch" we can flip for you

    • That ain't right, a 270x should be doing much better than that. You're not using the i5's integrated graphics instead of the 270x are you?

    • Thats probably whats happenening. His system should easily run High/Very high settings.

    • Yeah...without any AA, filtering and shadows maybe...

Where do all these High/very high people come from?

It is key to understand the role Vram plays in gta 5 before making wild statements and fueling false hopes

Question is also what resolution he's playing at. The amount of VRAM you need at, say, 720p is going to be significantly less than at 1080p, let alone 4K. So yeah, at 4K, he can maybe expect low to medium with few effects turned on. At 1080p, he can probably get medium to high with some AA turned on. At 720p, he should easily be running high, maybe even close to Ultra, depending on how much is turned on.

The funny thing is, there have been several tests to prove this Vram theory and very surprisingly it turns out that many cards with lower Vram have been able to outperform those with bigger memory volumes...albeit by 1-3 fps.

So this is not a certainty and I am not sure he is running into issues there, especially when it is all on low settings
