Hello everyone,

i am trying to get to the bottom of a preformance problem with my main rig and hopefully i can get some help here.

my rig:
-ryzen 1600x (turbo off, runinng at 3.7ghz) with corsair h100 aio
-8gb crucial ballistix spor 2666 mg (2x4gb dual channel)
-asus prime x370 pro updated to 807 bios
-cooler master g650m power supply
-amd r3 240gb ssd
-seagate barracuda 1tb
-cooltek tg-01 case with 4 120mm fans
-gigabyte gtx1080 aorus 8gb (11gbps model)
-win 10 pro 64bit, all updates and all latest hw drivers
-system fully stable tested with occt, memtest, 3d mark

The problem i am having is with framerates in many games i tried dropping for no apparent reason:

The games are ran in 1080p all maxed

-COD black ops 3: 150fps droping to 90, going back up again, constant stutter
-gta 5: 187fps droping to 120 for a second for no apparent reason causing lags and stutters, if i turn on vsync its sillky smooth 60 fps
-crysis 3: 90 fps droping to 32 and right back up again (crysis did the same on my previous fx8350 rig)

the only other game i tried is project cars, maxed out 37 cars on track, full rain all AA setings maxed doesnt dip below 55, and seems smooth all the time.

cinebench score is around 1200
3d mark timespy around 7400

both of these seem preety normal when compared to similar systems

I would grately appreciate any help in fixing this problem

Thanks in advance

Solution

The problem does seem to be your ram. Try allocating more to the game or just buy 8 more gbs.

The top actualy has an opening. The stock fans were replaced by cooler masters. Core temps max out at about 59 celsius, north bridge max 40, and gpu maxes out at 65 on oc mode so there should be no problem there. Havent even notice any more than a 2 degree diference taking the side panel off.

yes brand new drive both of them even tried windows 7 first. tried dirt 4 today all settings maxed out including msaa 8x no problem runing at above 90 fps butter smooth. i know black ops 3 is a very bad console port, and crysis 3 doing this on many high end rigs i just dont get the gta 5 problem without vsync the even the graphic options menu stutters sometimes dropping to 30ish fps (using fraps) but with vsync on it doesnt even budge below 60

I have been playing around with the system some more using msi afterburner. Seems like stutter happens when ram reaches more than 4gb used. Is it possible that 8gb ram is causing this. I saw gtx1080 recomended is 16gb. Even went as far as taking 1 stick out, only to find out that stutter happens in the same places but is much more pronounced

Solution
I am buying a 16gb kit of gskill trident z rgb tommorow and will post the results. Ps when i turned textures on rise of the tomb raider to high instead very high ram usage dropped and the stuttering stopped completely
