Hi,
I need to replace my old 12 years old desktop PC, and put in my basket the following configuration (all components on amazon.ie, didn't buy yet). Main usage is desktop / multimedia, but occasional gaming too. As long as it plays most recent games in mid-settings i'd be happy enough. My knowledge on computer hardware is quite limited, as well as my budget (€1200 max), so could you let me know if there's anything wrong / incompatible with this setup of €1020, or if any component should be replaced with another one, for the same budget (€1200 max) ? Also, am i missing something ? :) Thanks

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

You're advised to stylize your thread with info asked of in this thread;
and the community will chime in with worthwhile suggestions.

The build you've listed above should work out of the box although I'd get a second smaller capacity SSD for the OS, app's and launchers. The larger drive can be your game library drive. Though the Arc B580 would struggle at 1440p. 1080p, sure...but not 1440p.

Part of me feels like you can go onto AM5's platform while being within your budget as opposed to sticking with AM4's aging platform.

Give this a whirl and see if you're able to get lower prices on your end;

i would argue that for a €400 an old radeon 7700xt is no longer a good value -
simply because there is a better card on the market
(same raw rasterization performance , more VRAM , more modern features , and costs only €40 more
and if you are willing to buy previous generation than for €450 you can find used rtx 4070
which is better than both these cards)

I like the pick of the original msi monitor in the first post. I have that monitor and am quite pleased with it. On mine I had a little ghosting, but I think I just had to turn the speed on the panel to normal instead of fast.

I also agree go with am5. Don’t get me wrong am4 was a great socket, but am4 should be considered gone. It still works but am4 is like the cowboy riding into the sunset.

The last post suggesting the 5060ti, I’m also in agreement with that pick. I’ve been tempted to try Intel cards, if I were on a tight budget and it was at msrp definitely worth looking at. But Intel is still a relatively new player in the dedicated gpu space so there could be quirks.

As far as the 5060ti, I actually have one of these. As someone who has used a higher end card like the 7900xtx, look the 5060ti isn’t in that performance class. But I will say with the 5060ti 16gb, if you go into it knowing what you’re buying that it’s a decent midrange card, it’s really not bad. Using dlss and frame generation I can get high settings on oblivion remastered at 1440p. I want to say depending how you set your settings I can get close to 100fps give or take. It does well in 1440p with games like red dead redemption 2, as well as kingdom come 2. Keep in mind though you aren’t going to be running ultra settings and you will need dlss and frame generation to get those performance levels. Not sure how long the card will last performance wise but if you temper your expectations it’s not a bad little card if you can get it for the msrp or close to it.

yeah if you don´t have money for rtx 5070 (which is 35% faster) than 5060Ti 16gb is your best option
and if you need to save even more money than intel arc B580 (but it´s whole another tier below 5060ti)

just never buy an 8gb model of 5060Ti -
you may be tempted to save a few bucks
but that half capacity frame buffer cripples this card in multiple new titles (and even some older ones)
and it is only going to get worse in the future
even if you think about resale value in the future :
if you will be upgrading and wanting to sell 5060ti
the 8gb models will be pretty much worthless/unsellable in 2 or 3 years .

Not sure how you display in this forum the list of components like you guys do ??? do you select one of these codes from pcpartpicker.com : PCPP / Reddit / HTML / BB Code / ???
the BB one .

replace the power supply -
gigabyte units are pretty infamous ...
i find it funny gigabyte with this model advertise japanese capacitor"s" but only a primary bulk cap is japanese the rest of them on the secondary side are junk -
capacitors on a secondary side often have to endure harsh conditions .
5 year warranty is another red flag -
also this unit is not even atx 3.0 /3.1 certified (for this system you don´t necessarily need it but...)
it could present issues for future upgrades ...
atx 3.0/3.1 power supplies are much better equiped to handle power spikes of modern gpus
and they also have 12VHPWR connector included in the bundle .

1tb drive will get very annoying pretty fast (2tb is a big "quality of life" improvement)

if i´m being honest you basically changed both recommended setups in this thread for worse .

Actually bought a 2TB NVMe, the list i posted was incorrect.
Also, i have already an unopened SSD drive, this one:
https://de.pcpartpicker.com/product/mdc48d/crucial-bx500-240gb-25-solid-state-drive-ct240bx500ssd1
Should i use it for the OS only, and keep the 2TB for the rest ? or should i just use the 2TB NVMe only, for everything ?

Gave this a bit of thought, after I posted earlier. I would expect a CPU upgrade will be warranted before long, being only a 6c chip. I would possibly suggest 1080p, to save money to spend elsewhere, if the goal is AAA gaming. I also suggest against going with a Gigabyte PSU.

Hell yeah!!! All the parts finally arrived ...last one was the RAM, which showed up today. Built the PC today (my second ever build, first one was 13 years ago, and I’ve been using it ever since). Took my time, watched tutorials, was super careful with everything. Managed the cables nicely, closed up the panels, plugged in my Windows 11 install USB and… IT BOOTED UP ON THE FIRST TRY! 😄 Just need to install drivers and the rest, which I’ll handle tomorrow. Can’t wait to put this baby beast to the test! Huge thanks to everyone for the recommendations!

That's the final set up by the way : https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/gkzpJn
I know you guys did not recommend the Gigabyte power supply but it was too late to change, parts were already ordered 🤷‍♂️

After a week of testing this new PC, I’m pretty happy with its performance. AAA games run smoothly in QHD at medium/high settings. However, I’ve noticed the fans can get quite loud during gameplay, and the graphics card seems to generate a lot of heat ... the glass panel near it becomes noticeably hot to the touch. Not sure if normal or not ?
