Hello!
What part of my PC would I need to upgrade since I seem to be running into low FPS / Lag spike issues on most games
PC Specs:
Processor : AMD FX(tm)-6100 Six-Core Processor, 3300 Mhz, 3 Core(s), 6 Logical Processor(s)
Motherboard: BaseBoard Product GA-78LMT-USB3 R2
GPU: GTX 1060 3GB
RAM: 16GB DDR3 1.3 GHz

(I don't understand why my CPU is under-preforming)

The CPU is not that great (single core performance is not the best), also 3 GB VRAM is below what I would call minimum. If you play your games in addition from a HDD instead of a SDD, that would complete the cause of your problem.

Slow CPU, not enough video ram, and game tries to stream from HDD (maybe). Those three things will cause slow fps/stutters.

Also, what kind of resolution and settings you try to play in? And what games?

I'm installing windows / games on an SSD right now and the test did a single core test. I'll redo it
Minimal settings on games. 1980x1080
CSGO, Minecraft and League of legends
Csgo runs at 10-20fps with the lowest settings

No, it didn't do a single core test. It just tells you that the single core value of your CPU is bad. and that is true for the FX processors.

Processor speed is made up by 3 main factors:

  1. Core clock speed (your processor: medium)
  2. Instructions per cycle (your processor: poor)
  3. Number of cores/treads (your processor, good)

The CPU is basically obsolete.....a Intel i5-2500k is the minimum what I consider still up for today's gaming needs, and your AMD FX 6100 is 4 categories below that according to Tom's Hardware's CPU Hierarchy: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/cpu-hierarchy,4312.html

I really think it is a combination out of your old CPU with a OK video card that is on its limit with the video ram. Not much you can do about it.

From what I'm reading my CPU seems to be better than a Intel i5-2500k? https://ark.intel.com/products/52210/Intel-Core-i5-2500K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3-70-GHz-
My cpu: https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/fx-6100

Would it be cheaper to buy a new CPU / GPU and DDR4 ram or a new computer?

The i5-2500k is definetely by far better than the AMD FX 6100: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-2500K-vs-AMD-FX-6100/619vs1984

The 2500k if about 70% faster than the FX 6100.

As I explained earlier, its not just MHz and cores. It's also the instructions per cycle and in that the FX 6100 is really bad. the whole AMD FX line was not that good.

At this time, you might want to look into buying a new computer. Tell us your budget and we help you to get a good system for the money you want to spend. If you only plan to play the above mentioned games, you might be fine with your video card and keep using that in a new computer for the moment.

If you want to do gaming and play also modern games, you might want to buy a new computer. Tell us your budget and we help you to get a good system for the money you want to spend.
Around £600. I think replacing parts would suit me best as it would be cheaper. I believe that I need to update my CPU / RAM. My GPU seems to still be okay

This one?

no, you don't want to buy the 2500k. that was just a example of the absolute minimum. but that is a cold cpu that is not available anymore.

You also can't just buy cpu. You also need a motherboard, cpu cooler, ddr4 ram with newer cpu's. that is the bare minimum, if you can reuse your old case, hard drives, and powers supply.

Anyway...you should be able to get something real nice for the money. You can get for example a AMD Ryzen 5 2400 for around 150 pounds. That would be a pretty good processor for that price.

Yes, you can keep your GPU for now.

Outside of the CPU being a slow one for gaming, in CSGO you should be getting much more than 20 fps on low.

Is this a new build, old build, was it always slow, just started being slow, what changed if it was fine before? Did you try a clean Windows setup with new drivers on it?

I reinstalled windows on my SSD and I'm now getting 200+ fps on all games
