Good afternoon,

I'm planning to buy a new computer. The computer must stay on the whole day, so it must be a low power consumption system. I've the following system composed:
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400
  • Cooling: Noctua NH-L9i
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B360N
  • Case: Inter-Tech ITX A60
  • Hard disk: Kingston A2000 1TB
  • Memory: I already have memory
I'll use the sytem to run batchfiles. The GPU in the processor is good enough for the things that I'll do with the system. I'm planning to use Windows 7, because the batchfiles runs older applications that works better with Windows 7.

My main system at the moment has a Ryzen 5 3400G. Maybe I'll switch to the new system, but I want to know if the new system is better than a system with the Ryzen 5 3400G. Or maybe there are better systems that I can buy?

Solution
i5-8400 is 6core/6thread cpu, R5-3400G is 4core/8thread cpu. They are significantly different.
i5-8400T is ~20% slower than i5-8400 (3.3Ghz max turbo vs 4Ghz).
Do the models with T suffix have the same performance under full load as the i5-8400 or Ryzen 5 3400G?

I want to have the same performance as the Ryzen 5 3400G, but with lower power CPU. Or isn't this possible?
