Hello,
i have a simple question.
i have a compaq laptop with 1gb ram, intel celeron m 1.73 single core processor, and it sais it is designed for vista. it has an intel x3100 graphics chip. i want to install windows 7, but i dont know which version of win 7 would be better suited for this specs. i am not planing to upgrade memory or anything like that. i just want it to be snapy.
thankyou in advance.

I would not install Win 7 on this Lappy... ! 1Gb of Ram will not really be enought for win7 to run snappy like. and the Celeron CPU will be working hard.

You might be ok, with all Aero stuff turned off(setting windows, under advanced setting,to adjust for best performenace)

but i would install something like XP ( normal of a Tiny XP)... but i normally install Ubuntu or Kubuntu on my slower lappys for web and email and so on.

I'm going to agree with Ronald on this one.

Your laptop would run very snappy with XP on it if you disabled all of the visual effects or a good Linux distro would run well. If you haven't before, it'd be a great learning experience.

Although I'm not a huge fan of Ubuntu distros or variants, everyone has their reasons and tastes and I hear it's a good Linux cherry popper.

As far as your question is concerned Restrectred, The_Prophecy was spot on, the only thing you are getting by installing a different version of Windows 7 is access to certain features. To be honest, I don't think you'd have anything to gain by going beyond Home Premium, so if your heart is set on Windows 7 then go with 7 Home Premium.
