I have an older Dell OptiPlex with a Core i5-3450 and a GT 1030 my 10yo uses for light gaming. The thing is it’s pretty underpowered and even games like Minecraft struggle sometimes. I can’t afford a new system for him and would like to try and boost performance if possible. Are there any other low profile GPU I could install that would boost performance?

Solution
If you have room for a 2-bay wide card in the HP Compaq 6300 Pro SFF , get the Zotac 1650 bignastyid recommended. The GTX 1050 Ti as a 2nd choice. I used a 4GB GTX 1050 Ti in my Dell Optiplex SFF with 8GB system RAM for a long time. no issues.
The best low profile GPU is the GTX1050, or 1050Ti. With 8GB RAM I would get the 1050 2GB, 12Gb or more the 4GB Ti version.
They're all 2 slots wide due to a hardwired DVI port. A UEFII card should run in that. Optis were UEFI since the LGA775 780 version.
If you must have a single slot card then the TX750Ti is next best. But struggles at 1080P. None of them requires a PCIe power cable.

The 4GB GPU/8GB combo only has issues with a few programs that want you to have 12GB RAM anyway. But "usually" not a problem. I went from a GTX1050Ti 4Gb to a 1060 3GB in my 8GB Optiplex 380MT to avoid them, But not an option in lo profile. I haven't looked at the lo pro 1650s yet.

Looked now, very good choice. about 1/2 way between a GTX1060, and a 1050Ti. It's a 4GB card. I would have 12GB RAM on board if possible.

Hey, william p. Long time no "see". Nice to hear from you again.

The new format threw me off for a while. I almost had 2K best answers and they changed it on me. I'm still not used to it. I've been off in an overclocking thread I started at TPU. Mostly Dell workstations. Ran into BambiBoom he's doing HP workstation modding in an HP forum.
