low psu, can it run high-wattage graphics card?

Hey guys i'm asking if i had a low psu wattage ( mine is 450) can it handle gtx 280? Also, im using it for only work and the sims 3

for a little while, sure. Don't be surprised if it blows up on you. It really depends on the quality of the PSU. I high quality PSU rated for 450watts can probably handle it. A low quality one, probably won't even boot.

I doubt it would actually blow up. But it will eventually fail. And cheap PSUs have a bad tendency of taking something else out with them. If you were sure you would never use the card at its max capacity, you may get away with it for awhile. Maxed out, the GTX 280 is a 236W card.

That will draw 19.7 amps on the +12V rail when maxed out. Does you 450W PSU even have a 6 pin and an 8 pin PCIe aux connector for that card?

You have a 6 and 8 pin PCIe connectors on a 450W PSU? What PSU is it?

If a capacitor blows, it can sound like an explosion when it "pops".
