Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, so I hope I'm posting in the right place. I recently got an Asus Strix 1080ti and decided to see how it would perform with 3D mark. My gpu scored decent with 10477 but my cpu (I7-6700k) only scored a 4325. I tried the test multiple times and was met with the same results, all the way down to 15fps. While watching the test, it starts at 45fps then drops down to 15fps, so I thought maybe my cpu was overheating (I only have the coolmaster hyper evo 212), but when I monitored the temps, it only went up to 59c, not really that hot. I check my motherboard (MSI Gaming M5 z170a) if the slow switch was on, and it wasn't. As a final resort, I took out my cmos to reset my bios and ran the test again. Same results. I'm running out of ideas here, any suggestions either in bios settings or different tests to run?

now that looks more real life and inline for non ''k'' cpu and no overclocking [a tad better]

what about this deal ?/

So Core 0, 2, 3 All minimum voltage of 1.143v and clocks of 3,996.1Mhz, while Core 1, had a minum voltage of 0.755v and clock of 800. Mhz.

seeing your cpu is at stock 4.0 your scores are nice in line with the top non k 6700 and single card

you would think if that one core was stuck at 800mhz it wiould not do so good as you last reported ???

top non k 6700 and 1080ti - Graphics Score 30 291 - Physics Score 11 866 friestrike score 19 942

see as long as your cpu is not overclocked and stock your right there where you should

[notice his 6700non k just gets to...
don't look decent to me ? what test was run ?? in firestrike 1080p [default test] my 980ti graphics score is 20250 and my i5 4670 non k score is 7577 ?

seems likr your the 3 or soi guy with a MSI board and a new pascal card and experiencing this ??? like maybe here ?

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3390722/bought-graphic-card-geforce-gtx-1080-performance-improved.html

if I recall seems like I look at another msi guy with the same things going on ??

are you able to run this part of 3dmark ?

the lowest single card score that's not a -0- with a non k i7 6700 [to eliminate cpu overclocking affecting the scores]

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/12139046

you should be at least in the ball park of single card use ?

Number of GPUs = 1 [firestrike]

http://www.3dmark.com/search#/?mode=advanced&url=/proxycon/ajax/search/cpugpu/fs/P/2016/1127/500000?minScore=0&cpuName=Intel Core i7-6700 Processor&gpuName=NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

what about needing a latest bios for that card use ? like this 1.A bios offers

- ''Improved PCIE compatibility. ''

- Improved SAMSUNG 950 Pro NVME compatibility.
- Updated Microcode.
- Enhanced Game Boost function.

- ''Updated VBIOS and GOP.''

may need it for that latest 1080 ti ??

My resolution is 3440X1440, so it was at least ran at 2560 x 1440. I'm unable to run that test as I don't have the full version. Any suggestion for free cpu benchmarking tools? Also I'm running version 1D of the Bios, so it's all up to date.

I guess you could look at the firestrike ultra scores [4k] but still that CPU score is too low for a i7 should be in the 10000 range

this is 34th place [1/2 way ] under firestrike ultra [4k] single card - Physics Score 11 593 - Graphics Score 6 991

with that your graphics score seems on par , but that cpu ??? [ I assume you mean by ''my cpu (I7-6700k) only scored a 4325'' was the physics score ? ]

Ya that was the physics score. Total score was like 8700 or something, obviously way too low

can you get hwinf064 and run it in the background when running the firestrike test and record the cpu stuff to see if its even boosting properly or any voltage drops or just anything that may look out of whack

like I showed above in that one screen shot and like this ?

theres a nice bit of monitoring with it look over there screenshoths of the monitor

another MSI motherboard user ?? try whats said in the best answer and see what you get then ??

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2667997/low-physics-score-3dmark.html

maybe something up with MSI not allowing the CPU to boost to full states and that he said may force it to ???

Thanks for the tip. So I ran the test again and found something interesting on the HwInfo - So Core 0, 2, 3 All minimum voltage of 1.143v and clocks of 3,996.1Mhz, while Core 1, had a minum voltage of 0.755v and clock of 800. Mhz. I'm a noob so I have no idea what this means. Any explanation or fix would be much appreciated. (ALSO my power setting in Windows is all ready set to High Performance)

me either . that seems odd behavior .. I never experienced that [intel] when under that physics test all cores should be at sustained max boost ..

now cant say is it a motherboard issue ? bios issue ? [may try a older good bios and see ?? ] or the CPU defective ?? unless someone jumps in here and has input on that I don't know ??

maybe start a new thread on that cpu thing here and see if anyone picks it up ??

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3052074/6700k-stuck-800mhz-msi-gaming-motherboard.html

https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/531278-skylake-system-stuck-at-800mhz/

I googled ''i7 6700k one core stuck at 800mhz'' a bit on that stuck at 800mhz also a lot said it was there cpu cooler poorly mounted [ I have seen that on memory issues ]

may try to reseat your cpu cooler ??

''okay so i made the mistake of over tightening my cpu cooler. i undid my mount screws and then screwed them back on finger tight. and now its working like its supposed to. thanks everyone for the help. ''

http://www.overclock.net/t/1599917/i7-6700-stuck-at-800mhz

''My heatsink was too tight... i feel stupid. ''

http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3056942/6700-stuck-800mhz.html

NVM actually, I reran the test and the cpu thing didn't happen, but the score was still 4300ish. I guess I'll try flashing an older bios, thanks for your help tho.

I added above ?

then

and

So I removed my heatsink, cleaned my processor, reapplied thermal paste and tightened it only finger tight, nowhere near as tight as before, ran the test... Still 4300. I also flash backed the bios to 1.A... Nothing. To make sure my processor wasn't busted I ran the Intel Processor Diagnostic tool and results claimed my processor was functioning properly... I am at a lost here.

[notice his 6700non k just gets to 3,718 MHz so yours at 4.0 gives you that little bit of a bump up on him ]

have you gave this bench a try ?
