How appropriate. You fight like a cow!

Yeah, when I think of Maureen, I think of two things: asphalt... and trouble.

Signal Vice-Admiral Thrawn!

This is beyond awesome. I have to admit that i was sorely dissapointed that some of my favorites like Tie Fighter, X-Wing, Dark Forces, etc, aren't on the list. I would gladly pay $5, maybe even $10 for some of those games to replay.

Suggested next to-do list for Lucas Arts:

Remake X-Wing,
Remake Tie Fighter,
Remake the Tentacle,
Remake Money Island II.

About time to revive adventure game, even though I play mostly FPS now.

Yeah, that's a pretty weak coming to steam... but at least they came! I hope in the next few months they roll out most of their back catalog.

And since they are on steam, I assume that they've been upgraded to run on xp, vista, and 7.

or they could make better sequels to those games instead of rehash old material like hollywood.

I'm totally for a modern, 2009/2010 version of X-Wing and Tie Fighter. With modern graphics and all. :) Those two were absolute classics, which I loved to play back in the day.

I've been left for wanting since the days of those games. Nobody does any decent space fighter sims anymore. 🙁 Let alone, classics like Aces Over Europe or Aces of the Pacific by Dynamix.

Isn't that essentially the other Hollywood model? Given there are some games I want sequals to, but I really want new and original IP. I'm so tired of the same game with a different skin.

I fail to play any great space-sim since Tie Fighter. Tie Fighter and last two Wing Commanders are the reason why space-sim is almost a dead genre. The graphics back then was so bad, that you have to use your imagination in order to play it. That alone tells you the quality of those games. Why not give them great sound, music and graphics and let the new generation enjoy it like we used to?

A lot of those old black-and-white soundless movies were remade after sound movies became popular. Those movies then were remade after colored film became widely available. Then digital revolution helped to achieve better spectacle. I don't mind some movies getting remake, I just don't want to see a new The Sound of Music and Gone With The Wind. Those two are perfect the way they are.

The next 'big' space flight sim was supposed to be Babylon 5 Into The Fire which was canned by sierra when they were restructured. It was going to pass the torch along from Tie Fighter/X Wing Alliance. It failed. It was the year of sadness. The year of pain. Tie Fighter is the last of the great space flight sims. It was the last hope for victory...

Abandonware is not an offical legal status. Even if it was, these games are most defintely supported and available, seeing that they will be available through Steam.

I would hardly call these games "classic" when Lucasarts has true classics like X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-Wing Vs. Tie Fighter, Monkey Island... I could go on for some time...

+10

Too bad it runs horribly in DirectX. Works well with a Glide wrapper though.

"'Ees too bad you have manure for brains!"

Don't make endless remakes where every remake is worst than the original. Just maybe update a few graphics and you are done. Don't even update the controls and the UI, because it will make the game fail (Dune2k).

I don't think classics should even get an update at all, except to make them work with the last few windows versions, maybe port to Linux.

If you're into classic LucasArts games and you don't already know, there's a great looking fan made Indiana Jones games in the works. Progress is slow but steady and they already have a demo out. There's talk that they may be able to get the original voice actor from Fate of Atlantis on board for the final version too.

Check out Indiana Jones and the Fountain of Youth here: http://www.barnettcollege.com/

I'm surprised no one mentioned Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle! Let's also not forget Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders. Hey, my handle comes from somewhere you know! :)

I commented to a friend a while back that I would build myself a top-of-the-line-no-expense-spared gaming system if there was a modern remake of TIE Fighter (CD edition). They wouldn't even need to change a thing about the gameplay or even add any new levels. Same old TIE Fighter, modern graphics. I'd be there in a heartbeat.

I could finally get rid of my K62 500 that is running Windows 95 on a 5.25" hard drive! Hopefully I can still use my old Gravis joystick, do they make a game to USB adapter? 😉
