Lucifer k2 cpu cooler overheating

When I got my lucifer k2 cpu cooler I had to cut off the very ends of the heat pipes and I re sealed them to make it fit in my computer. It doesn't cool the cpu at all and I want to know if it's because the heat pipes or if I installed it wrong or something else.

Thats because the heatpipes have a liquid inside them that wicks heat away from the baseplate. But cutting them you effectively turned the cooler into a hunk of metal.
