Not many well-designed RTS games these days have a spell that should be used every time it's available but can't be auto-cast so that the user doesn't have to manually do it every N seconds. Most would see things like this as design flaws. However, some starcraft fans seem to think this is what RTS is about.
And it seems Blizzard agrees:
Zerg Queen's lava spawn can't be autocast.
Terran MULE can't be autocast.
Protoss warpgate can't be queued. Nexus's power can't be autocast.
There's no technical issues with making these spells autocast. And autocast would be useful for these, even for the best of players. Yet blizzard says you have to do these mundane actions yourself even if you're simply casting every time it's available (as is the best option in many circumstances).
Personally, if I have to do some mundane repetitive action every N seconds in order to remain competitive, I consider that button mashing.
