Can you even do "LAN Parties" nowadays with the DRM stupidity?

I don't recall any modern games you can play via IP connection to a host. Palworld's server and TF2's server would be the closest, but you still need Steam, so not quite offline (remember: the L in LAN stands for "local", so "offline").

Regards.

I remember LAN parties back in the early 2000's. My friend was an IT major and organized it in the colleges community center. We had over 100 people show up with their big bulky desktops and we played Counter Strike and Battlefield 1942. Drank Red Bull and ordered dozens of pizzas. Good times!!!!!! Can't ever have fun like that anymore. Like when I would run my Flying Fortress over a capture site and drop bombs killing half the room, hearing everyone yell ahhhhhh at the same time. Fun Times!!!!

Back in the day I had 9 computers set up in my home. When I upgraded my main machine, I passed down the parts to the lower end computers. Then bottom 4 were outdated but playable. That worked for a while but ultimately I convinced my friends and family to bring their own computer and plug it into one of my computer stations, (that had good monitors/speakers/keyboards/mice and a LAN connection). That was the best! NOTE: It was mandatory that me and my older brother be in different rooms. He is 13 months older, so it is the standard older sibling thing. It was really fun playing where we could talk to each other, (and my Brother and I could yell profanities at each other from different rooms). Early Home LANs were very exciting back then.

Man the early 2000s LAN days were awesome. There was a LAN cafe I used to frequent and play CS, BF1942, Warcraft, NFSU2 and many more games. That kind of energy and camaraderie isnt the same online. Its also quite sad that you cant host your own servers as easily anymore.
