M.2 and HDD not playing together

So today I just received my very first m.2 nvme ssd. I installed it into my PC and when I turned it on, the bios was only detecting the m.2 and not my hdd. I uninstalled the m.2 and my pc booted up normally and my hdd was detected perfectly. Is there a reason my bios only detects one or the other? Does my motherboard maybe not support both?

Mobo: msi z170a pro
CPU: i7 6700k
Ram: 2x 8gb ddr4
Gpu: gtx 1080ti
Psu: 700W

Most motherboard when you use m.2 will disable a SATA port. please read your manual on which SATA port you should connect your SATA HDD.
