I'm looking into buying an m.2 SSD but I've heard bad things about the m.2 heat shield on the MSI gaming m5 motherboard. My question is, will the heat shield just raise the temperatures more than normal or will it ruin my SSD. The SSD I'm llokingto buy is the Samsung 960 EVO 250gb.

Is it a constant/ noticeable throttle?

In the case of the Samsung 960 EVO NVMe throttling occurs in stages to minimize the impact on the user experience.

OK, I guess what I'm asking is if I'm making the right decision or not.

I guess I just assumed that it had to be on.

Yeah gamers nexus did a good article on that as posted above. I will say that if you are just using that SSD normal tasks such as gaming or browsing the web its likely never going to get hot enough for it to matter if you are using the shield or not. I would personally leave it off as it seems completely useless.
