[SOLVED] M.2 Install Motherboard

Rookie question -

Have an ASUS Z690 Hero (not one that spontaneously combusts).

popped open the Heatsink for the m2 slot. There is a padded surface with plastic that can be removed. There is also a padded surface with plastic that can be removed on the heatstink.

the surface is a sticky more or less substance - just curious what it is? I removed the plastic after putting the m2 in place and it seems like now it cannot be removed or if it is removed the substance won’t let go evenly.

This is most likely a thermal pad, its like thermal paste but in a compressed form.

Ah thank you - so most likely not meant to be installed and then removed frequently.
