M.2 not working in msi sli plus

I recently bought a m.2 from wd green (wd green pc ssd sata m.2 2280) for my Windows to boot from. But I can't get is he show up in the bios or the Windows setup I have already disconnected every data device I set my storage configuration on raid and still can't get it to work.

I hope someone can help me because I have been trying now for the last 4 hours.

That's because you have an MSI SLI z170A Plus. This motherboard does not support M2 SATA. It only supports M2 PCIe configurations.

You have to have a PCI-E M2 SSD for this board.
