[SOLVED] M.2 NvME not recognized by Windows 10 installer

Hi folks,


Just finished a new build, and most things appear to be working, except for the M.2 Nvme drive. It's recognized in the BIOS and the information there is accurate, however, the Windows 10 installer will not show any available drives to install.

I've tried using both M.2 slots on my motherboard but the result is the same. I have updated the BIOS to its latest version but that did not seem to work.

Here are my specs:

• Asus TUF Gaming X570 (Wi-Fi)
• Ryzen 5 3600XT
• Asus ROG Strix 2070 Super Advanced
• ADATA Swordfish M.2 500GB (this is the only drive in the system).

I also tried following the steps on this post: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/cant-boot-from-m-2-nvme-ssd.3365143/#post-20482537 but, no luck.

Wondering if anyone has any other suggestions?

This ended up being related to the bootable USB installer not being created properly (and thus, missing drivers along the way).


I created the Windows 10 USB installer in MacOS Catalina, and was missing an important step where you have to split install.wim into 2 files because it's bigger than 4GB and given FAT32's limitations. I ended up following this tutorial to re-create it and everything worked like a charm: https://blog.birkhoff.me/create-windows-10-installer-usb-stick-on-macos-catalina/
