Hi Guys,
I was considering an upgrade from my current Storage devices and had a few questions about M.2 NVME and thoughts on my upgrades.

The general question I have regarding an M.2 NVME is does Storage used affects speed. As a example, if OS is the only thing on the M.2 will it boots faster then if 400 out of 500 GB is used on M.2?
Because my current boot time avg on my 970 M.2 is 14.6 seconds which seems really high for a 970

I currently have a Samsung 970 M.2 500 GB That I only use for my OS and CSGO (The 2 things I care about the most) I then have a 500 GB Samsung 860 EVO for the main software that I use, and a 2TB HDD for games.
I was going to upgrade my 970 M.2 to 980 M.2 Pro to boost my OS load time and my 860 to a 2TB 970 M.2 just to eliminate my HDD

I think its overkill. But got some Christmas gifts space I can use up so why not

  1. Boot time is a poor metric to decide on a new drive.
  2. 14.6 seconds is what, exactly? Reported how?
  3. Overall boot time difference between a 970 EVO and a 980 Pro is pretty much zero.

Hey, Just got the 14.6 from the Task Manager in "Startup"

I see, so would you recommend keeping my 970 since I only use it for 2 things?
Also how do you feel about eliminating my HDD and just getting a 2tb SSD/ or NVMEE

That "14.6" is the BIOS boot time.
Nothing to do with the drive performance.

And yes, replace the HDD for a SATA III SSD of whatever size meets your needs and budget.

Going from HDD to SSD is a big change.
ANY SSD.

Between the various types of SSD in a gaming system, not so much.
