Hello, need help if anyone could.. I will greatly appreciate it. So I just bought alaptop last month and trying to upgrade the storage to SSD. My box say model it ZX50V, but when I go to Computer properties it says GL552VW. That's so confusing hence I'm having a hard time figuring out what is a compatible SSD. The back of the laptap has a lable M.2 2280 SLOT SUPPORT SATA SSD ONLY. Does that mean it won't be able to take a 950 PRO NVMe SSD? I tried opening the hatch at the back and noticed that the port for SSD only have 1 notch, isn't that for NVMe interface? and SATA interface has 2 notches? Which one should I get 850 EVO or 950 PRO?

M.2 is the slot format. The format can support SATA or PCIe (NVME). However if it can only support SATA then a firmware update wont suddenly allow it to support PCIe. An email in to tech support might help clear things up if you're unsure if the label is correct.

My understanding (although I have not worked with this laptop) is that it's a ASUS model rebranded for Micro Center. I'm under the impression that it's equipped with a M.2 slot on the motherboard so that it is compatible with the Samsung 950 PRO NVMe SSD. However, before you go out to purchase any M.2 SSD drive, FIRST check with Micro Center at:
http://www.microcenter.com/product/460656/ROG_ZX50VW-MS71_156_Gaming_Laptop_Computer_-_Black to determine compatibility.

If it is the one you list here, all the Q&A and reviews point to it only being equipped with a m.2 SATA port, not a m.2 NVMe slot. Just because it has an M.2 slot does not mean its compatible with PCIe/NVMe drives. Someone specifically posted that they tried an Samsung Evo 960 and were not able to use it.

Thanks guys! I went to micro center and was reading the specs and Q&A didn't mention compatibilities. Is there a way to select the specific SSD type and check compatibility to this specific laptop?
