I bought an m.2 drive for my pc I swore it had an m.2 slot on my Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 R5 motherboard however It doesn't so I bought an M.2 adapter card to slot into a spare PCIe slot. All went well, went to disk management to format the drive, the drive appeared on my PC and I cloned my c: drive onto the m.2. However, when I went into BIOS to set the M.2 as the first boot option I couldn't find it as an option in the boot priority list. The M.2 works fine as a drive just can't get it to be a boot drive.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Oh right, I got a useless m.2 drive then.
SSD plugged into sata would work thou, will it?
Not useless. You just can't boot from it.
There should be no problems with sata drives.

Your original drive is still in the pc. Right?
You can add another bootloader entry to use windows from M.2 drive.
Use bcdboot command.
Post screenshot from Disk Management, if you need help with bcdboot command syntax.

Capability to boot from pcie device depends on motherboard BIOS.
Check if your motherboard has updated BIOS version available.

If not, then you can still use M.2 for windows, just have bootloader on a different storage device.
There is an updated bios availabe on gigabytes website but it was already installed on the board when I bought it.

How do you upload a file on this forum, I can see the insert image button but it dont show you the path

Execute from elevated command prompt:
diskpart
list disk
select disk 0
list partition
select partition x
(select 100mb EFI system partition, x is either 2 or 3)
assign letter=M
exit
bcdboot K:\windows /s M:

Reboot and there should be option available to boot 2 instances of windows. One from HDD and other from SSD.
