M.2 Samsung Evo 960 problem with being found in bios

So I encountered a big problem today. I have been using the Samsung SSD for a while now. It is the NvMe SSD from Samsung mounted on the motherboard. the motherboard is a msi x370 carbon. Until today I had no problems with it. After I installed the new windows update it all of a sudden booted from an old HDD that is in my computer from my old PC.

The moment after I noticed I went into the BIOS and looked it up. What is going is that my SSD isn't recognized. It's not in the boot list and when I go into the board explorer and look at the slots it says that both m.2 connector are empty, but the SSD is installed correctly. It is it the same slot where it always was without any problems.

So after this I went and checked maybe if it was dead. So luckily I still had the old bootable SSD which I was able to use and check the SSD. So the strange thing is, I still could look in the files, tested the SSD with Samsung Magician and everything seemed to work fine.

I formatted the SSD because I thought it was windows to blame because it was corrupted after the update. After I reinstalled, the BIOS still could not find the SSD, but it did before.

I've been trying for hours, tried switching slots, reinstalled windows, formatted the drive, literally everything within my league.

So by asking this I hope someone has the solution for me, because I am absolutely clueless at this point.

- Did you reinstall the M.2 drivers from Samsung?
- Did the BIOS boot order get reset to the old drive? You don't mention checking that, so perhaps you did but if you did not, that may be your issue.

Thanks for the answer, but yes I checked. It is nowhere to be found in the boot order. It just isn't anywhere to be found in the BIOS. The boot order changed because of the fact that the SSD disappeared.

Also the latest version of drivers is installed, this has been checked through samsung magician.

This is hard to say other than try to RMA the drive, if you still can. The only other thing... and you probably tried this, disconnect all drives other than the M.2. Reboot. See if it manages to default over there. Otherwise, RMA? Wish I could be of more help.

Hi Laukxs,
I have a very similar problem. I have the same board MSI X370 pro carbon with two Samsung 960 EVO M.2 drives.
The M.2 drives are not recognised by MSI board explorer. I have managed to get windows installed to one of the drives but only if it is connected to the M.2_2 slot on the board. the M.2_1 slot in not recognised by Bios or Windows. I have tried all the things you have mentioned new Bios etc. Even to the point of buying different brand of M.2 SSD and this worked in slot M.2_1. so I'm still confused if you get any where please let me know.
