Long story short, I am pondering going for a mobo with a second m.2 slot.
I thought I might be able to save a bit of money and get a mobo with just a SATA m.2 slot as the second slot.
Also save a bit and get an m.2 sata drive. I am unlikely to notice the difference.

I just got a 500gb m.2 NVME.

I am struggling to find cheapish m.2 SATA drives. Are they on the way out?
Or am I just not searching for them properly?
Should I just go NVME at this sort of price:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/ADATA-SX8200-512GB-Gaming-Solid/dp/B07K1J3C23?th=1
£70 pound ish for a 1TB NVME.

M.2 SATA is dying a quick death is SSD. The cheapest one I can find on Amazon UK runs 60 Quid. Where as for 62 Quid you can get a nice midrange NVMe drive. Unless...
I haven't kept track lately. Not sure the price differential compared to SATA is much nowadays. Offhand, maybe they re getting rarer in M.2 form.

I'd be sure to read the fine print on motherboard storage specifications for any peculiarities to avoid surprises.

WD SN550 or 570 and Intel 660P or 670P are also decent lower priced choices.

Not a boot drive?

Thanks for those.
No, not a boot drive. Storage.
I have 2.5 inch but I am tempted by the tidy form factor as I am almost fanless and it would be nice to remove a couple of cables.
I am pondering making a case and this would also make it easier.
Just trying to get my facts straight to make a decision.
It would be a bit of a luxury really.

That is great, thanks.
That is what I was wondering, I appreciate the confirmation.
That is a great price isn't it? I hadn't seen them that cheap.

Out of interest, you mention the Amazon one, but not the cheaper one from Box.
Would you not trust the Box one for any reason?

Yeah......I was in the market for 2 TB storage maybe 3 years ago and decided to get rid of cables. I paid $220 for a 2 TB Intel 660p; I've seen it for as little as 130 recently.

It is my primary storage drive. No regrets it has been flawless and doesn't need a heatsink.

Prices for SSD is quite nice right now overall. I got a 2TB ADATA SX8200 Pro a few years ago for around $200. Now that same drive is $140.

I was just using Amazon as an example since I don't know UK retailers.

Great.
No, you can't expect drives to increase in value can you?

Ah, right, thanks.
I got tempted in by the same drive but 500GB for my boot drive.
I was surprised (and pleased) at the price.

Right, will ask about a motherboard set of questions in the correct area.

Thanks again.
