Hi,

Does these M.2 Slots on the motherboard can support both SATA and PCIe interface?

As far as I know, it supports either one but not both of them. However, according to the idiot on the HP Chat tells me their Probook 470 G5 supports both.

The customization options for this laptop offers both M.2 SATA and M.2 NVMe SSDs. I believe they swap motherboards depending on what selection is done.

I don't know, maybe I am wrong. Maybe there are M.2 Slots that supports both interfaces but then again, that chat agent is an idiot anyway.

Solution
that's totally correct -M.2 can be SATA but NOT NVMe, but when it's NVMe it can also support SATA...

In other words, NVMe can be backwards compatible (to SATA) but SATA is not forwards compatible to NVMe.
Alright, was there a case where these M.2 Slots only supported SATA interface but didn't work with NVMe SSDs?

Because I was denied an Asus Laptop sale by a reseller because I have been told that my Samsung 960 Evo PCIe NVMe will not work because this laptop only supported SATA interface. Asus Live Chat agent also confirmed this. Strange enough, this laptop is recently released.

Check the customization options, only SATA interface M.2 SSDs are listed. I contacted them about installing 960 NVMe and told that PCIe NVMe interface is not supported on this model.

no.
there are 3 type
sata only
pcie only
support both sata and pcie

I already said that, the use of the words "can be" indicates it's a choice made by the manufacturer.

To support SATA, NVMe slots actually route a PCIe lane to whatever SATA controller is in use on the mobo.
