[SOLVED] M.2 SSD AND NVME

Solution
Gigabyte H410M S2 V3

1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280 PCIe x4/x2 SSD support)

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/H410M-S2-V3-rev-10/sp#sp

i try searching up on google for m.2 ssd but i see some of the ssd has nvme m.2 and some of them are just m.2 ssd. im so confused whether i should and can install a nvme ssd or just a normal m.2 ssd
M.2 is only the form factor. There are NVMe and SATA drives in the M.2 form factor.

Your board only takes an NVMe drive.
Samsung 970 EVO, for instance.

Descriptions in the online text may be 'not quite right'.
You'd need to look at the actual drive, and not whatever text is associated with it in an online listing.

Someone saying 'just m.2 ssd' may or may not be...

The form factor is M.2, and in that form factor are two variants;
1| SATA based M.2 SSD's
and
2| NVMe/PCIe based M.2 SSD's

The slot on the motherboard can only work with PCIe based SSD's as stated in your motherboard manual, here, page 15[point number 7, M2A_SB (M.2 Socket 3 Connector)].

Would you like the community to help you find an SSD for your build? If so, please list your processor's make and model as well as the rest of your storage options at your disposal.

As others have said, your motherboard only supports one M.2 NVME Gen 4 slot.

Gen 4 comes with form factor 2280 with M key so I don't think you'll have problems finding the one that works with your motherboard regarding the gen 4 nvme.

Left is for nvme drives while the right is for Sata m.2 drives. Nvme have M keys while most Sata drives can have both B and M keys to prevent them from fitting into the slot.

A SATA M.2 drive will work in an M-keyed slot. The only reason why they're also B-keyed is because there were SATA only M.2 slots which were B-keyed to prevent NVMe ones from being installed. Although in practice, you could manhandle an NVMe drive into a B-keyed slot because if you flip it around, it's only off by one pin and there's potentially enough of a tolerance that you could mis-install it.

See the keying table at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2#Form_factors_and_keying
