Greetings to all.
I have an old desktop setup
with a m/b Gigabyte G1 Sniper 2 - z68 chipset
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/G1Sniper-2-rev-10#ov

I bought an m.2 ssd to pci-e adapter
http://www.akasa.com.tw/search.php?seed=AK-PCCM2P-05

and an NVME m2 ssd
SSD WD BLACK 500GB SN750 PCIE NVME M.2 WDS500G3X0C
https://shop.westerndigital.com/products/internal-drives/wd-black-sn750-nvme-ssd

Running on win7 - 64bit, the adapter is not recognised.
I have made no change in the BIOS so far to recon the adapter.

Any suggestions to resolve this? I would hope to boot from it. If not possible, I would at least like to use as a drive.

Thank you for your effort everybody.

Solution
You need only windows 7 x64 hotfixes and nvme driver.
They are motherboard chipset independent.

Extract downloaded USB tool archive,
locate folders
hotfix\x64
StorageControllers\IntelNVME\installer
and run installations listed there.

Windows 7 doesn't support nvme devices.
Specific hotfixes have to be installed. Also nvme driver has to be installed.
You can find hotfixes and nvme driver on Gigabyte windows USB tool.
https://www.gigabyte.com/Support/Utility?kw=windows&p=1

Booting from NVME is not going to happen (your motherboard would need updated BIOS, that enables pcie boot).
But it's possible to boot, if bootloader is on sata drive and windows installed on nvme.

Thank you for your quick response.

I have also seen this on a similar thread. On that link the the win usb instl tool has some notes "
(Note) Support Intel Z370 series motherboards. / 100/200/X299 series motherboards

Does that play a role? Because if so, the Z68 is not listed. :(
I have already downloaded on of these.

The Z68 is 6 generations older than the Z370. Simple question of bad marketing text.
You probably only need the Win 7 fixes and driver

Your solution worked like a charm. I couldn't have done it without you.
The adapter is recognised as standard. The drive was initiated (i chose MBR form)
I formatted the drive and now is accessible.
Thank you for you blazing-fast help.
