Hi, I'm having a pretty weird issue but, knowing my computer and the issues I've had with it in the past, I should have seen this coming.

I'm not the best with computers but okay enough to somewhat diagnose the issue. On the 3rd of December I set my PC to update and shut down before going to sleep. I come home from work the following day and every time I switch on it forces me into BIOS. I've found that my Samsung 980 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD (which is also my boot drive) is no longer being recognized in BIOS therefore my computer wont start as it cannot detect windows.

My temporary fix is to just install windows on my other SSD (another 980 PRO but 2TB) and go from there. I would like to try to fix this issue though and pray that the m.2 itself isn't fried as I unfortunately had quite a lot of important things saved under that drive.

My Specs are:

Msi mag b650 tomahawk wifi
Ryzen 9 7950x
RTX3060
2x 980 pro m.2 ssd - 1TB + 2TB

That's all I can remember as I'm currently back at work using the only PC I have access to to write this out, hoping anyone out there is able to help me with this

If the drive doesn't show up after swapping slots, motherboard's or platforms, the drive is gone. This should be a lesson to backup all of your mission critical data. You could locate a professional data recovery specialist but they will cost you a pretty penny.

You might want to see what BIOS version you're on for your motherboard.

You forgot to mention the make and model of your PSU. If it's recycled from an older build, include it's age.

Unplug and replug the m.2 a few times....test.

Move the m.2 to a different slot...test.

Hi Lutfij, thank you for your response.

I have 3 slots on my motherboard and I did swap it around into another one last night. Unfortunately, it is was not recognized at all. My 2TB m.2 was being recognized perfectly fine in each slot I placed it in as well.

Starting to think maybe the worst has happened and it may indeed be fried then. This sucks.

I also believe my PSU is the Corsair hx1000i 1000w. Wondering if that actually changes anything?

You mean this unit? If so, then you've got a reliably built unit to power your entire build. I wouldn't suspect the unit to be the root of your issues, unless you've had a similar anomaly with other parts in the past while on this unit.

The previous issue I had stemmed from the old motherboard I had, ROG STRIX B650E-E. The PSU has been awesome since purchase and I don't believe I've had any issues as of yet with it.

The last couple of months I've had multiple blue screens of death and a few times while idle my PC has forced into BIOS. A simple restart/switch off and on would fix but would still leave that worry. Now it's all broken and I understand the issue. I can assume that has all come from the now faulty m.2

EDIT: Yes, that is my PSU
