Hi,
I have just finished building a multipurpose gaming PC for my family (see bellow for build details). Everything went fine and the computer was up and running with windows installed on the M.2 SSD and the second HDD configured all correctly. I even tried a few games and they worked great.
That night I powered off the computer and in the morning I went to turn it on and it said that no boot media was detected and to install the windows CD. I powered off the system and unplugged and re plugged all drives. The computer the turned on without problems. I restarted and it still started.
The problem is that every time the computer is off for more then 2 hours it is unable to start and the SSD is NOT detected in bios. Unplugging and re plugging SSD fixes this problem until the computer is off again for a few hours.
USEFUL INFORMATION: I actually built two identical machines (only difference being the size of the hard drives) for my brothers. Both computers are having the same problem so I have immediately discard the idea that something is broken. Also I have updated bios to F5 from F3, stil no fix. Also, given that it works after re plugging SSD I am assuming that compatibility is not an issue. There is also no change weather i have the HDD plugged in or not during start up.
From what I have been able to read I believe that the M.2 port on the motherboard is default set for PCIe SSD's but also works with SATA SSD's. Not sure if this info will help though.
I think that I have to change some BIOS settings but I am at my wits end to know what exactly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
BUILD DETAILS
Mobo: Gigabyte GA H97-D3H
Crurical M500 120GB SSD (M.2)
i5-4690
2x4GB Kingston DDR3 ram
Seagate 3TB HDD
Gigabyte GTX-760
If I have missed any details let me know! Thanks again
