M.2 ssd not recognised by motherboard

I have the Asus sabertooth x99 motherboard and have just brought a Samsung 960 evo m.2 ssd.

The problem I'm having is that it isn't detected by the motherboard or in windows?

I've tried installing windows onto the ssd, but it isn't being detected
