So I recently bought a transcend m.2 SSD 830s (1tb) and was going to use it to clone my existing hard drives files onto it and replace it using Acronis. However when I installed it into my mobo (ASRock b360m pro4 it will not show up in the file explorer, partition software, transcend ssd software, or even in the bios. I installed it into the m.2_1 slot, but when I switched it to the m.2_2 slot on the mobo it worked. However I wanted to use this slot for another SSD, so I know the SSD works, but it won't be detected at all in the m.2_1 slot. In the Bios is stated that the slot is not detected.

Any help would be appreciated

Solution
The Transcend 830s is a SATA III drive.
https://www.transcend-info.com/Products/No-982

It will ONLY work in the M2_2 port on that motherboard.

https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/B360M Pro4/index.asp#Specification
------------------------
  • 1 x Ultra M.2 Socket (M2_1), supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x4 (32 Gb/s)**
  • 1 x M.2 Socket (M2_2), supports M Key type 2230/2242/2260/2280 M.2 SATA3 6.0 Gb/s module and M.2 PCI Express module up to Gen3 x1 (8 Gb/s)**
------------------------

There is no way to change that.

First, that is a SATA SSD and not an NVMe. On that motherboard, only the M2_2 slot supports SATA according to the specs page -- https://www.asrock.com/MB/Intel/B360M Pro4/index.asp#Specification
The M2_2 slot is the one by the front edge of the motherboard near the other SATA ports.

Many thanks for the reply, I must say that is quite the bummer, but alas.
