Ok I feel pretty silly about this one.

Basically had a Samsung SSD and Toshiba HD for a while. OS was on the SSD and it was always full. I'm a little cluttered by my SATA ports so I decided to get an M.2 SSD.

Ordered a WD 500gb M.2 and put it in. Nothing, couldn't find it in disk management but in my Bios Board Explorer it did show something as being connected in that slot. I was having trouble getting enough space to make updates etc. so long story short is I backed up my comp and started fresh with a new copy of windows. Still no luck with the SSD.

Come to find out that my MOBO only supports PCIe not SATA so returned it. Went to Microcenter and bought a Crucial 500gb P1 NVMe PCIe SSD 500gb. Assumed I was in the clear. Plugged it in and nothing.

Have tried every which way. Bios has been updated. All windows updates have been done.

MOBO is MSI Z170a SLI Plus

Solution
Often, NVME drives will need to be enabled /configured in BIOS, and, often at the expense of a pair of SATA ports if desiring full x4 lanes of bandwidth...

So first step is to see if the M.2 drive at least shows up in the BIOS...?
