Question M.2 ssd

I currenlty have a ssd boot drive I am happy with, but I want to use M.2 for gaming. Do I have to install windows 10 onto my M.2, in order to use it for storage. Most videos are for set up and cloning windows onto the drive. I just want faster loads for gaming, i.e. E: drive.

You can use the M.2 SSD just for storage.
