I am replacing my failing boot/os VisionTek PCI Express Solid State Drive 240GB Vtech in my ancient but still faster than most (Supermicro x8dti-f, dual xeon x5680, 48gb) Now according to both Supermicro & Visiontek this drive is not compatible WRONG but 4 years in and it's failing . As a replacement I was considering this setup

QNINE NVME PCIe Adapter, M.2 NVME SSD to PCI Express

Sabrent 256GB Rocket Nvme PCIe M.2 2280

From my understanding this setup might not work as a boot/os drive, but the Vtek pcie drive worked fine giving me hope, so anyone know for sure?

Solution
The answer is YES! It works, with some effort. My mobo is not uefi so you need a bootloader that can emulate it, I used clover Nvme/Uefi Guide and now have a nvme drive as my os/system drive on my dual xeon x5680 lga 1366 board, yeah!
