You mean the other way around.
A pci-e slot to m.2.
Yes, you can do that.
It should work as fast as in M.2 slot but speed will be of limited use because your MB most probably can't boot from it, and could be used only for storage. Money wise you would be better off with a SATA SSD.Oh yes right does it makes sense? Or would it not work as fast as it would be in a M.2 slot?

Yes, it does make sense and will be just as fastOh yes right does it makes sense? Or would it not work as fast as it would be in a M.2 slot?

BUT i need to know what cpu and motherboard you have
It does support nvme, but don't bother since apparently you need to go through some hoops to get it to work.My CPU is a AMD FX-8350 And my Motherboard is a Asus M5A78L-M PLUS/USB3

It's a western digital blueWhats the specific brand and model M.2 Drive you bought?
While its a waste of time and money to use an adapter, depending on what specific type of M.2 you bought changes what type of adapter you need.
It's a western digital blue
Art so WD blue M.2 2280 ( WD BLUE 3D NAND SATA SSD M.2 2280)I need the Specific model number, Blue doesn't tell me if its PCIe or SATA, M.2 could be either one.
It's just SATA3 with M2. package, not any faster than with SATA interface. Not worth added cost of an adapter.Art so WD blue M.2 2280 ( WD BLUE 3D NAND SATA SSD M.2 2280)
Damit bought it for nothing than haha. But thank you guys was not aware of this forum it's awesome here. It's just SATA3 with M2. package, not any faster than with SATA interface. Not worth added cost of an adapter.
I think I will buy the adapter you mentioned as I only have one SSD with my OS on it and want to switch my HDDs with some more SDDsIf you can't return it than an adapter like this turns it into a normal SATA drive

Otherwise just return it, its of no performance benefit. It actually would not even work in a PCIe slot based adapter.
