Question M.2 to usb 3.0 is recognized but ssd is not

I plugged an SSD to usb adapter into a laptop running windows 10. For some reason the adapter is recognized in devices and disk manager but my ssd doesn't show up in either.

i've had the same issue with SATA > USB adapters.
some just seem to be cheaply manufactured and may or may not work.

try it on another system and if it still doesn't work just return it and possibly try a different model.
