Question M.2 vs sata 3.0

I have can Asus F510QA. I have not a slot for m.2 sata & a 2.5” hdd slot. Does it matter what size drive I use?

With SATA III drives, M.2 or 2.5" performance is identical.

Seems like I got 1 of each slot. Also seems if I use m.2 slot have to use smaller drive. Not sure.

Are you sure about the model#? I only see one search result for that and that one takes an M2 Sata drive.

m2 slots were designed to have pcie lanes as well as Sata lines wired up to the connector but it's upto the system manufacturers to wire it they way they want. Some are wired only for sata drives, others only wire them only for NVME (PCIE) drives and some wire the slot for both.

I've opened it to see what was inside. I see the m.2 ssd but I also see a space for a 2.5" drive. I'd show a picture but can't seem to put it up.
