M.2 vs SSD

As the title explains what is the difference between m.2 & SSDs?
I have 3 days to decide.
I've heard that m.2s are capable of reaching 32 gigabits per second & are cleaner because you dont need cables. Is it worth spending 20$ more for a m.2?
The SSD is 860 Evo vs 860 Evo M.2.

Thanks!

The only difference between those two drives is how they connect.
1 connects directly to the motherboard.
The other has SATA data and power cables from the motherboard and PSU.

There is no performance difference.
Nvme and m2
nvme standard is screwed into the board no cables required
m2 is the faster one, but in reality, no real difference between them unless you are running server type things.
I went from SSD to M2 Samsung Pro - no real world differences. I personally, wouldn't recommend going M2 for extra cost, but going Nvme is OK - apart from most Nvme slots are right next to/under the GPU - which means heat!

The above bolded text is incorrect.
"m.2" is simply the form factor. Much like 2.5" vs 3.5" drives.

m.2 drives can be had in NVMe or SATA protocol.

Nothing an M.2 drive is an SSD. M.2 is just a form factor. I assume you mean what is the difference between SATA 3 and PCIE. Bandwidth, M.2 drives typically use the PCIE interface (though some use SATA) PCIE has far more bandwidth than SATA 3, allowing for much faster speeds to support NVME drives like the 970 evo and the like.

The real world difference between an NVME drive and a typical SATA SSD is not much. NVME drives excel at moving around large files very quickly. But in terms of game load times, app launch times, windows boot times they are not much faster.

Those are both SATA drives, and deliver exactly the same SATA III performance.
Just in a different package. m.2 vs 2.5".

So what I get is:
So M.2s get hot if M.2 slot is under GPU
20$ more isn't worth it
M.2s are potentially faster

Conclusion: Just get the Normal SSD

Thanks! I will get the Normal SSD!

I got it backwards, I woke up early :)
But still it's what I said with reverse words 😉
