Hey guys, I recently purchased a asus x99 deluxe mobo for my new PC build, and included with the mobo is a M.2 x 4 pcie card. Can someone please explain exactly what this card is/does? I've tried googling this but have found no simple explanation as to what it does, only extremely scientific answers have been found.

So can someone please tell me if I should use this card? what are the benefits of using it? what will I lose/gain from using/not using it?

I will be running only one 980ti, maybe another in 6 months time depending on how hard I work haha.

Many Thanks Guys

i would guess its an adapter card to allow fitting an m2 drive into a graphics slot

something like a samsung sm951 these are a lot faster than a standard ssd
Since you got a Asus X99 pro, can I ask you a question? Is the m.2 adapter comes in a bag? when i opened the box, pull out the mobo, i can see the adapter was naked right there without a bag.
I'm worried if this is a returned item. I contacted newegg but nobody knows if there should be a bag or not. Does Asus never sealed there boxes in the U.S? What I'm worried most is I'm not able to test this mobo until I'm leaving this country, which means not possible to make a replacement. Please forgive my English.

M.2 drives are faster than ssd. The card is for using an m.2 drive on the pcie slot. However, the board already has a dedicated m.2 slot to the right of the ram. So, unless you already have an m.2 drive on that slot I would recommend not using the add-on card. I have the x99 deluxe and the m.2 adapter card. however, I don't use it. I use the m.2 slot to the right of the ram slots. I'm thinking of adding another m.2 with the card on the pcie add on card. If you check asus x99 deluxe detailshttp://www.asus.com/us/site/motherboards/X99/ then you can see it is capable of using two. The downside is it takes 4 pcie lanes. Depending on your cpu, 5820 or either 5930 or 5960, and whether you have a soundcard, sli. then that might hurt you. Right now, I have my os on the m.2 and a 4x250gb ssd raid 0 for games. and a spinner for files and stuff. I recommend this set-up.

Hello good Sir!

When I setup RAID 0 on my mother board (Asus X99-pro/USB3.1), my Samsung m.2 drive disappears from the Boot Drive selection list, and computer won't boot. I have Windows 7 installed on the m.2 drive.

Similar to you, I would like to setup a RAID 0 for video files and the m.2 for the OS.

I noticed when I setup the RAID 0, it was labeled as "bootable". Is there a way to make it "non-bootable"...maybe that will prevent the m.2 drive from being removed from the Boot list??

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I had the same problem. and there's an easy fix to that.

I'm using my X99-Deluxe board with 2 M.2 SSDs and 3 normal SSDs on RAID0.

In order to install windows in to your m.2 ssd, you should unplug every other hard drive or ssd attached to your mobo(it's not necessary but I think it's better for eliminating any possible interference). Then go to your UEFI Bios, go to boot menu and find CSM compability support module, disable it. and then go to secure boot and change your OS type to other OS.
I couldn't figure out having RAID setup and booting from the m.2 at the same time, so I created my RAID 0 volume in the OS after installation.

After doing these, you should be able to install windows and boot it from there. If you'll have any other problems you can ask me.
