[SOLVED] M.2_2 Nvm problem

Asus Z370-p ii
i9-9900K
Kingston 32(4x8)GB ram DDR4
RTX 3080
1 x HDD 500GB
1 x SATA 500GB
2 x NVMe
750w PSU.
Windows 11


I have had the same rigg for a year. I have change something in BIOS, like xmp 1, so I get higher speed on ram.
But 2 days ago I get problems on the M.2_2 slot NVM. Thought it was the nvm card itself, so I bought a new one. But the same problem occcur.

The NVM is only for storage for games.

I can see the nvm in MY PC, I do find it in Computer Management and in BIOS. BUT when I play a game from that m.2_2 slot, it can take 10-30 minutes before game crashes. NO BSOD, if I use verify files(Steam), it will give me "WRITE ERROR"
If I go in Disk management and click scan it will say "A problem occored when scanning this drive"

Nvm in M.2-1 is where Windows is installed
My SATA /HDD is connected to SATAG6-3 and SATAG6-4 now... It was on SATAG6-1 and -2, but same problem.

I have tried different settings in BIOS, but nothing helps....

You are the second person I helped today with same type of Seagate drive
try running seatools on it - https://www.seagate.com/au/en/support/downloads/seatools/
check if its got a firmware update and tool can also test drive.

unlike Samsung it doesn't have its own drivers.

have you tried with no hdd attached? Software can't make a drive disappear like that.

only restriction apparent on mb when it comes to m.2 is for slot 1 anyway

Check the drive, firmware. everything is ok,
But I dont think its the drive itself, I can only think its something in Bios at this point. Since my other NVM that was in the slot suddenly had that error, thats why I bought the Seagate.......

i didn't think it was drive, i was just mentioning the coincidence.

i don't know if reflashing bios over top would make it work again.

it likely is the motherboard, but what make/model PSU is it?

I removed the NVM in the M.2_2 slot. Put it in M2_1 slot and everything is working. Thniking is something with the m.2_2 slot......

I don't know all the power supply makers so I will get back to you on if I think it might have been involved.

As a slot randomly stopping needs looking at.

Sorry, that was the wrong psu... that is on my wife's computer.

looks like I found the problem..

Got corrupted files in windows, reinstalled. same problem..... Got BSOD....
Ran "sfc /scannow" and the DISM commands. said repaired 100%. next time I started the PC, got BSOD again....."System thread exception not handled."
Then my pc made 2 fast beeps: Parity Error.
Which means it something wrong with the memory. It still logged into Windows, so I ran the Memory Diagnostic, then a pop up came and said there was a problem with memory.

My ram speed was 3600 with xmp on.... this was the culprit.
Running now on 2400 speed...... everything is stable...............

I have been running the ram at 3600 for atleast 1.5 months.
I thought the xmp would do everything automatic....
I read one post here with same issue, but he fixed it with setting the vccio and vssca himself.

xmp is an overclock, its not guaranteed. It works most of the time'

Try running memtest86 on each of your ram sticks, one stick at a time, up to 4 passes. Only error count you want is 0, any higher could be cause of the BSOD. Remove/replace ram sticks with errors.
Memtest is created as a bootable USB so that you don’t need windows to run it
Run it overnight.

Just make sure ram is okay.

been runnin memtest86 all through night(12 hours) still no errors. Tried testing one and one ram stick and rebooting, I still get 2 beeps just before I can log into windows
I am lost at this point

can tell by looking in System Information App, it will be on a line marked Bios Version/Date (might be under CPU line)
Update could help as most of time they help ram compatability

Since I did not get any errors on memtest86, I went out and bought a new PSU. Cougar GEX850. Changed all cables also.
I also removed the HDD and are using the SSD and both M2. nvm slots now....

Been stable the last 5-6 hours, so I think its fixed
