Question M2 Adapter for ASUS B350 Plus Motherboard

I currently have an M2 installed on an ASUS Prime B350 Plus motherboard. Like an idiot, I ordered a second M2 (Crucial P3 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive) thinking I could install that also but from what I found, there is only only slot available.

I believe I can use an adapter to essentially provide me with an additional M2 slot. Something like - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B084GDY2PW/?th=1. I'm not 100% on this and I just want to be sure that this would do the job.

As an aside using https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/ I was able to add two M2s with a note stating "When the motherboard M.2 slot M2_2 (M) is used, two SATA 6 Gb/s ports are disabled." This was the rationelle behind my impulsive purchase! Seemed to indicate that there were two slots?

Really not a hardware guy at all (I need to learn!) so appreciate the help!

It will be a new machine later on this year. This is just a sticking plaster for now. Just would be useful to know if this would work.

Ah okay. Thank you. learnt something there. Just found this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-M-2-Adapter-Profile-Express-Red/dp/B01FU9JS94/?th=1 - states "The adapter is compatible with PCIe 3.0 motherboards and is also backward compatible with PCIe 2.0 and PCIe 1.0."
Yes, it will work, I have 2 similar ones. Those adapters are just a straight wire to wire, contact to contact converters form PCIe slot to M.2 slot, no electronics or converters involved because M.2 slot is same PCIe as all others, just with different contacts.

Should work just at a slower speed.
