I have installed a Samsung M2 xp941256 Gb version card into a Gigabyte Z97X UD3H MB and have tried to install windows 7.
But for some reason the install places a 100MB system partition on the Raid 1 HDD drives which seems odd.
I was not asked during install it just did it and subsequent clean & re install does the same if I remove the partitions its the same.
Is this normal I can live with it but it puzzles me?

Hi Neo_Classical

Thanks for your reply?

But it installed this on the HDD while installing win 7 on the M2 card which is a puzzle.
I would have expected the partition to be on the M2 card?
AM I missing something?

This is just a problem with the Windows installer. That's why it's recommend you unplug all other drives when installing.

I've got the exact same ssd (xp941 256 gb) on a z97 mobo, running win 7 x64 - if you're doing a clean install, remove or disconnect all other drives except the optical drive.

One warning - don't know why, but after successfully installing, i tried adjusting partition volumes twice, and both times system crashed (BSOD) so bad, it wouldn't boot afterwards and the installation wouldn't "repair" using the windows dvd. I ended up, out of laziness, cloning my 840 Evo to the xp941, and then it wouldn't boot initially but whatever boot files had corrupted, were repairable with the windows dvd.

Since then, ramcity has a cloning procedure detailed on their website and the backup software (EaseUS ToDo Backup) has updated to include UEFI Bios

Hi all

Thanks for all the input I have now decided to leave the system partition on the raid, Plenty of room for it.
I found I had to format the raid vloume during win 7 install which I did after I set up hardware raid in Bios.
This way the raid volume appeared as D:\ drive in windows after install.
If you do not do this then you have to us ethe win 7 software raid set up as the raid volume is not seen by win7.
I now have the M2 card install as boot drive and running win 7 and a Raid 1 mirror for all my data.
It does seem fast compared to the OCZ Revo drive PC but that could just be the higher chip speed.
I just need to find that install key I lost or get a new one.

New build is looking good running ok will run memtest next and then network.
