Question M2 SSD not showing anywhere

Hello there! I bought an M2 SSD (970EVO) and when i plug it into my mobo( B350 PCmate) , literally nothing changes on my PC. Nothing shows up in my bios, nothing shows up in my list of drives, it doesnt show up in any advance settings on anything. No partitions, I cant boot from it, nothing.
Let me be clear, i am NOT trying to put windows on this. I bought it for the sole purpose of particular games. I already have windows on another SSD. I would just like for it to atleast show up so that I can install things onto it. I feel like I've missed an obvious step or doing something wrong.

It might be defective. Try returning it.
