M290x = HD 8970m?

I updated to beta drivers and it finally loaded up and everything is working but, It's recognized as an HD 8970M, are they the same? MSI states M290X

Its performance and feature set are identical to the HD 8970M, as the M290X shares the same core and features the same clock rates.

I have a ATI RADEON R9 M290X, recently the driver update in crimson diagnose it as M8970M, question is is the driver usable and is the same? as i receive crash (with background noise) once i started any game.
