This my first post here although I found out lots of useful info from this forum.
Recently my Athlon64 x2 was overheating and since it has not been clean in a while (4years) I decided to dust it off. as a result a took the heatsink together with cpu from the socket 😉 . All pins are fine but when I plugged it back i put compond lock the latch(am2) there is no vga output either using buildin card or my gfx. Fans are spinning so but there is no blip sound so It has been suggested in this forum that mobo is dead. Are there any other checks I can run to make sure that I need new mobo?I also tried swapping RAM around, removed bios battery but no results.I cannot swap cpu around since noone around has similar setup. Is it definately mobo or cpu fault? if mobo needs replacing can I get different model?
Thanks
Janko

After releasing the heatsink hold down lever, you need to gently twist the heatsink to break free the thermal pad from sticking to the CPU. If you pulled the CPU out of the socket with heatsink stuck to it then the socket on the motherboard is probably broken. In that case you would need another motherboard.

HP makes several different M2N68-LA models. [M2N68-LA (Narra6), M2N68-LA (Narra3), etc.]
