I have a Compaq Presario PC that I bought last year for $299....as always, I can't leave well enough alone.
I wanted to get a dual core AMD, so I ordered AM2 +4400 processor to replace Single core AMD64 +3500. We'll, I read the HP site incorrectly and my mobo does not have AM2 socket....so instead of eating the 15% restocking fee, I ordered a new mobo. Based on Mini-ATX criteria with 9.6"x9.6" size (exact Asus OEM size) and it had to have firewire, the M2NPV-VM fit the bill...
With the new board I had to get DDR2 ram and I chose OCZ 2GB DDR2 6400 revision 2 kit..
Everything installed just fine with only one modification....Compaq has a single connector that carries power switch, power LED, HD LED signals. I replaced the LED's from old PC with individual 2 pin connectors. The power connector I had to splice and solder.
Problem is the PC will not even post to Bios? the chassis fan and CPU fan spin but that's about it. I disconnected all the internal USB/firewire/audio connectors. I unplugged the optical drives, I unplugged the HD, and even tried to boot without RAM and single stick of ram.....still will not post to BIOS?
Someone here was taking about mobo standoffs and grounding? this board screwed directly into where my old mobo came out (also ASUS), it does not have the brass standoffs, but the case panel is raised at each screw location. Could this be a grounding issue?
