Question M32Q + W530 w/ Quadro K1000M, Resolution Limit?

Hi,

I have a thinkpad W530 with a Quadro K1000M gpu. I just connected it to a brand new Gigabyte M32Q (165hz, 1440p) monitor. When I went into the pc display settings to select the higher refresh rate, and check the resolution, I'm seeing no options for anything above 1080p at 60hz.

1. Can someone please confirm whether or not this is a limitation of my computer (more specifically, the gpu), isn't it?

2. My only other computer is a late 2011 mbp, and I believe it's max resolution is even lower (1680x1050 for internal display, max output of 1080p for external, but it's had it's dedicated gpu disabled due to failure).

Am I going to need to purchase a new(er) computer?
I appreciate a quick reply on this. I've only got a couple weeks to return the monitor if need be. And now I can't even properly test it without a new pc.

Using that information the bandwidth on the miniDP port is max of 12.5Gb per the Wikipedia page -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#Refresh_frequency_limits_for_standard_video
Which says that display port is a version 1.2 -- also from the wikipedia page -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort#1.2
Since your laptop is from 2011 that all fits. HBR2 bitrate, included with DP1.2 should be able to do 1440p at 144Hz
My first guess would be the adapter you have.
I think to get higher refresh you will need a 1.4 miniDP to DP cable and use the DP port on the monitor.

A relative has a couple year old lenovo desktop (amd) mentioned in another thread of mine. They also just got a new gigabyte 1440p high refresh monitor, which I set up. It is working perfectly with hdmi to hdmi cable.

I ordered a couple new adapters to replace the older mini-dp to hdmi adapter I had. This one arrived: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08XFYHFCK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I've connected it in place of the old adapter and it has given me the option for 1440p, which seems to work now.
But the refresh rate is not up to what I expected. I can't figure what the limiting factor is. I've tried a couple different hdmi cables as well.
When I was still on 1080p, the refresh rate menu had everything up to 144hz visible. If I chose 1440p res., then 120hz would be the highest refresh rate left in the menu (or 119.998hz, depending which menu I was actually in, which I also don't get. Maybe one is a "Nominal" or "Max" value, and the other is the real "measured" hertz). If I chose 144hz first (having to first make it visible by lowering the res.), then it would knock me back down to 1080p.
I can chose 1440p and 120hz (119.998hz), but the 120hz isn't working. It doesn't register as 120hz or 120fps using sites like blur busters to test, for example.
Can't seem to get more than 60hz (59.65something).
Nvidia control panel says "Connector: DisplayPort - PC Display", but to be clear, I'm using that adapter in the link above, with a standard hdmi to hdmi cable to the monitor.

1440p 120 Hz will be the maximum available, as Kepler GPUs are limited to 540 Mpx/s so 1440p 144 Hz will not be supported.

The UFO test is not 100% reliable, as it depends a lot on browser configuration. Having hardware acceleration enabled for example may limit it to 60 Hz.
