Greetings, i have recently attempted to flash/update the bios for the ASUS motherboard
M4A79XTD-EVO using the Asus Update Utility, failed obviously.

Here is what happened:

* The motherboard had some problems with handling all the cores on my cpu and i decided to update to a newer revision of the bios
* Downloaded their update tool and ran it on Windows 8.1 64bit pro
* Backed up my bios, saved it on a bootable usb bios drive and ran the internet update provided by the tool
* It erased the old bios, flashed the new but it failed at the verification
- I found that the software was faulty on 64bit operating systems... too late...
* Tried restoring the old bios with the tool, it erased the newly flashed one but failed to copy the old
* Flashed the new one again, failed at verification (second time) so i thought it was ok since it flashed and i restarted

Turns out it never flashed it the second time, the pc wouldn't even show the bios screen, no sound notification was there, the cd drive could be pulled out though. I'm guessing that the bios is now completely missing, not even a corrupt version is there (correct me if i misinterpreted that)
EDIT: The pc does turn on, the fans work and the lights are ok, its just that it does nothing at that point, it just "turns on"

The usb I used as backup was formatted as a bootable bios drive and plugging it in did nothing, no response whatsoever. I then tried hardware resetting the bios (using the clear jumper and removing the cmos battery, hoping for it to somehow revert), nothing, same problem.

Now, my questions:

* Is it possible to flash bios to a "dead" Motherboard without using an eeprom programmer unit
- I mean, can a recovery disc help? will it load at all or will it fail like the usb. This question pulls another, where can i get/download a recovery disc since i did not get one with my motherboard

* If the answer to the previous is no, next question: Does a pc service have a eeprom programmer and are they able to flash bios to a dead Motherboard?

* Since i study CS, and the uni probably has the device, can someone briefly explain how i can flash it myself

I really don't want to loose this motherboard as it would be a pain to find the same model... the store in which i got it doesn't have them anymore.

Thank you for reading, Code

Solution
Hi,
The simplest option, in my opinion, would be replacing the BIOS chip, as it's on socket and the operation is not complicated.
You can find BIOS chips for your board on ebay or, if in US, on ASUS eStore.

That's what ill probably do, i was thinking about hotflashing but id need a good chip for that. Ill probably hotflash the empty one to serve as a backup if this happens again
