M5A78L-M/USB3 and FX8320

Just got the board, updated the BIOS to latest version using a Sempron CPU, then I switched to the FX (brand new ), but no beep no post, fans and everything spin. Installed the Sempron again and boots just fine . ( I'm using 600 watts PSU and 4GB 1066 Kingston ) Suggestions?

Guessing it needs a bios update, put your old chip back and update the bios

When you use those lower power phase count ( 4+1) MB with the FX 8 series CPU, and that will be tricky. If the PC does not boot and nothing you can do because the MB can't handle the FX 8 series cpu, check the link, your MB like the M5A88-M (EVO)--Low capacity - unable to handle FX8150 that is similar to the FX 8320. https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AgN1D79Joo7tdE9xMUFlMEVWeFhuckJEVF9aMmtpUFE&gid=4
So you either buy the new MB or return the FX8320 then buy the FX6300.

I would not recommend using 1066MHz memory with an AMD FX processor.

Update: Well, returned the board, now I have the Asus M5A97 R2... and guess...yep...same problem, Boots with the Sempron but not with the 8320, upgraded BIOS to latest version, downgraded BIOS to known working version 1903. Got a second memory stick, tried both, different slots , tried with a second video card, tried a new PSU...non working with the FX...incredibly, fully functional with the Sempron on all configurations
