M5a97 evo boot device led & bios

My setup:

ASUS M5A97 EVO Mobo
AMD Phenom II x4 955 BE
GSkill Ripjaws 2x4GB DDR3 1600
Seagate SATA6 1TB
Sapphire Radeon HD 5670
OCZ 600W PSU
ASUS Wireless
ASUS DVD


Completely new build, first mobo had bad memory slots, got the replacement yesterday. Installed Win 7 Pro x64 and all the hardware drivers. Worked fine after rebooting several times. I then went back to try to get into bios.....FAIL. It would start post and end with the red boot device led on, with a black screen on monitor. Tried this a few more times and FAIL. Called ASUS, removed mobo battery and proceeded to clear CMOS. Reboot. Finally get an AMI screen, prompted to hit F1 to enter setup.........boot device led lights up, and black screen on monitor. ASUS says send it back.

Is there anyone else having problems like I am with this motherboard or one similar? I hate to have to send another motherboard back!! Any help is greatly appreciated!

I was looking to buy this board (Asus M5A97 Evo) for my first build as well with similar setup as yours as well. Would someone on the board be kind enough to advise on this Mobo vs. the M5A99X Evo?
I don't need crossfire/SLI and I like the m5A97 Evo as it fits my needs, but the OP post scares me.

any comments would be highly appreciated as I am planning to order soon from newegg.

Well I'm sending both the mobos back to Newegg, I bought the regular M5A97 from a local shop last night.....it works great!

Don't order it from Newegg........

Yes!! I having the same problem. I manage to turn on the pc goes into the bios and was installing windows 7.
Yet, it wont even start!, the red led light comes on next to the vga. I did the whole cleam CMOS and nothing it just keeps giving me the same *** problem. and im just had enough. Wasted hours trying to fix this piece of crap. Im going to send it back.
